Felt Art - Connecting Shapes
YOU WILL NEED
- Felt
- 1 x Scissors
- 1 x Protractor
- 1 x Ruler
- 1 x Pen
STEP 1
Let's make a hexagon! Draw a line, the longer it is, the larger your hexagon will be.
Here is a 3cm line.
Materials
1 x Paper
1 x Ruler
1 x Pen
STEP 2
Now use your protractor and match its midpoint to the end of the line you just drew. Make sure the line of the protractor is aligned. Mark a point at 60deg.
If you don't have a protractor, you can print one out and use it just the same!
Materials
1 x Protractor
1 x Paper
1 x Pen
STEP 3
Now draw a line from the edge of the previous line towards the 60deg mark. Make sure it's the same length as the first line you drew!
Here is another 3cm line.
Materials
1 x Paper
1 x Pen
1 x Ruler
STEP 4
After you've drawn your hexagon, we need to make some slits. Between every adjacent two sides draw a line that extends halfway through.
Materials
1 x Paper
1 x Pen
1 x Ruler
STEP 5
Cut out your template, but not the lines. (Technically you can cut the slit lines as well, but I prefer not to, to prevent my template from getting too flimsy.)
If you don't cut out the slit lines, then use a pen to poke a hole at the end of each line so you have 3 small holes circling the center of the hexagon.
Materials
1 x Paper
1 x Scissors
STEP 6
Place your template on a piece of felt, and hold it there as you cut the felt out around it. You can also use some scotch tape to fix the paper template down to the felt as you cut.
Materials
1 x Paper template
1 x Scissors
Felt
STEP 7
After you've cut out the felt hexagon, mark the points where the holes in your paper template are.
Materials
1 x Paper Template
1 x Pen
1 x Felt Hexagon
STEP 8
Cut a straight line from the corner of the hexagon to the point you just marked. Repeat it for all 3 points so that the slits match the lines on your template.
Materials
1 x Scissors
1 x Felt Hexagon
STEP 9
Now you have a hexagon that can interlock with other hexagons! Cut out more hexagons to make more cool patterns and art!
